Refugee Aid

How can digital technologies help refugees arrive in their new situation?

For people on the run, who only have the bare essentials with them, the mobile device is a great help in many ways. Contact with relatives, friends and lawyers is vital. If people try to gain a foothold in a country, they have to reorient themselves in a new environment, encounter language barriers and foreign habits. They need access to documents that they might not have been able to keep save on their journey.

The development of apps and software for refugees and migrants has been strongly promoted in recent years. We are investigating whether and how these digital opportunities can provide meaningful assistance in helping people in emergency situations. We have published our results in the studies Digital Routes to Integration and Blended Impact!.
