Organized Irresponsibility or Mankind's Next Step - What Is New Work

Recently I met the systemic consultant Hanno Burmester. I was as impressed by his analytical insight as I was by the political attitude he associates with his work. At one of our next meetings I brought my friend Bettina Rollow, who accompanies the betterplace lab in its TeamTransformer process. I was particularly excited to see how Bettina's oscillation between inner maturation processes and outer structures would match Hanno's approaches and experiences.

At the beginning we talked about what is currently known as "New Work" and what fascinates us about it. Then we talked about questions like these:

  • What makes companies decide to deal with new forms of management?
  • What role does digitalization play in this?
  • Do start-ups have something ahead of large corporations in terms of work culture? Or is that a myth and do the former use New Work more as a fig leaf for irresponsible dealings with employees?
  • What are the most important challenges for the different forms of business?
  • How do new processes/ competencies/attitudes relate to each other?
  • How do employees succeed in motivating/developing themselves to become involved in the company "as whole people"?
  • Do companies really get involved in "evolutionary purpose"?
  • What is the new role of the boss/CEO in "leadershipless" organisations?

During our entertaining conversation at the Co-Creation Loft in Neukölln, we let a tape run along. You will find a slightly shortened version of the discussion here on Soundcloud. Listen to it - we are looking forward to your feedback.
