On February 1, Isabel Gahren and Jelena Jovičić presented the collaborative research study "Bridging Divides, Dismantling Power Structures! Linking feminist development policy and the digital transformation" to the global crowd of the attendees of Perpetual beta. Perpetual beta is the annual global event hosted for all employees of the Goethe Institutes across the globe. The event deals with the contemporary topics of digital transformation and its social consequences. In this short blog post, we summarise our impressions from the event and outline the most important study points.
The goal of our participation was to present why a feminist digital future is needed and what must be done in order to get there. We got our audience engaged by asking them how they understand the idea of the feminist digital future, and what Goethe Institute and institutions alike could do to further foster a digital future that is truly intersectional and inclusive.
We moved on to present more details about our study published in October 2023 with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ GmbH) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) whereby we tackled core topics of digital transformation and linked them to the BMZ ‘s relatively recent strategy on feminist development policy.
